Find out how Jo and Aurelie from Plan Insurance spent their charity day

Day in, Day out our members enjoy coming along to the Merstham Centre to participate in our activities, be social with friends and enjoying a home cooked meal too. From time to time, something special happens - we have visitors.

Today, we were visited by Jo and Aurelie from Plan Insurance who spent the morning knitting with our members. For many older people, just being able to chat to someone new makes all the difference to a day. For Jo and Aurelie, it has been a wonderful experience to see the work we do and know that they have brought joy and enjoyment to many members at the centre. Best of all, they have knitted up some wonderful scarves and snoods which we know will benefit the homeless as part of another on-going community project at Plan Insurance.

Building relationships with local companies gives us real added value as a small community charity. We are able to benefit from the support of companies like Plan Insurance in a number of ways including:

* Helping our staff to deliver a service - whether it is spending a day helping with an activity like Jo and Aurelie or helping to cook, drive and serve meals - we are always in need of a volunteer or two!

* Skills - as a small charity we can only afford to pay for part-time staff for essential roles only. Very often, we do need help from skilled professionals to continue to help in the backroom. Whether you're an qualified accountant, communications professional or work in sales or logistics - your skills could help us do more.

* Fundraising - together we can do so much more and raise more funds to help older people to access help. Individually or as part of a team employees at local business help us to raise vital funds each year through fundraising initiatives. Whether it's dress up or dress down days or fish 'n' chip suppers and coffee mornings, every little helps. Why not take up sport? Swim a mile, run the Reigate Half Marathon or cycle Box Hill?

Thanks for spending your charity days with us Jo and Aurelie - we all enjoyed meeting you today.
